Suggestions for geeky reality TV shows that I would definitely watch:
Alliance of Love
Seven lovely night elves and one reasonably cute female gnome compete for the attentions of one lonely geek on World of Warcraft. The catch? Only one of the “girls” is actually played by a female! If he chooses correctly, he’ll have a girlfriend he can game with. If he doesn’t, he’d better have decent cybersex skills and a powerful imagination. In the top-rated episode, Barry and “Lithinara” bond over the corpses of about a hundred Bristleback Quillboars, only to have Barry’s hopes dashed when Lithinara says, “brb, got 2 drain the lizard.”The Serial Life
Over the course of a season, seven geeks are forced to live together. They have plenty of space, adequate privacy and every luxury but one: They must share a single 2,400-baud modem, plugged into the house’s only phone line, for all their networking needs. In the first episode, the housemates rediscover the joys of ASCII porn. Each week has a challenge, such as successfully doing laundry or not looking at ASCII porn for 24 hours. The winner of the challenge gets 15 minutes with a smartphone.
Seriously, this author gets it. I suffered through way too many episodes of Who Wants To Be A Superhero to possibly pretend that I wouldn’t watch these shows, which, although ostensibly parodies, hit geekhood square on.
